The Danish consumer spends €2916 a year on e-shopping. This is a European record. Danish consumer e-commerce turnover is estimated at more than 25 billion euros.
Denmark ranks first in the 2021 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), making it the digital leader in the European Union. As many as 99% of Danes use the Internet, and 91% of them regularly make online purchases. Such deep digital penetration not only creates a favorable environment for e-commerce activities, but also provides access to high-quality technological infrastructure, which is crucial for e-commerce success.
Danes lead the way in terms of annual spending on online shopping, averaging as much as €2916 per person. This impressive figure shows the high purchasing power of the population and their willingness to invest in a variety of product categories, such as fashion, electronics and cosmetics. The Danish market therefore offers ample opportunities to generate solid revenues for new e-commerce players.
M-commerce, or mobile commerce, accounts for 45% of consumer purchases in Denmark. It is a rapidly growing market segment that requires flexibility and innovation on the part of retailers. With heavy investment in mobile technology and consumer support, m-commerce is becoming one of the pillars of e-commerce, offering companies access to advanced mobile sales channels.
Danish consumers are open to shopping in foreign stores, with as many as 75% of them making such transactions. Reasons include the lack of availability of certain goods in local stores and more attractive prices. As a result, both new and experienced players in the market can successfully enter the Danish market, offering a wide range of products at competitive prices.
Joining this platform will allow the company to start selling in as many as four markets - Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.
